Project Brief:
Research
For this task, I was mainly in charge of creating a logo for the brand. On the previous meeting with The Business School, they requested the logo to be minimalist but playful, which are two very contrasting styles. From here, I went to Pinterest to find inspiration for the moodboard.

Fig 1.0 Logo Inspiration 1 |
I like the design of this logo because of how it brings in organic illustrations, i.e the leaf on the bottom rigt and assimilate it into the letter G, which also contains very organic curves. The overall circle shape of the logo also helps with showing playfulness and friendliness.

Fig 1.1 Logo Inspiration 2 |
For this logo, I love the interaction between the smiley face and the leaf, which makes it look like its winking. This brings a lot of playfulness to the logo.

The above collection of logo uses different methods to highlight its relationsip with plants, whether it be through literal drawings or through gestalt, its been nicely used to create minimalitic but memorable logos.
Task
Week 4
This week, we found out that the client had a new business plan and doesn't require us to do product designing anymore. Instead they already have the base bottles from their supplier. However, they still require us to create the 3D models for animation.
New Business Plan:
New Product List:
Moving on from here, the client informed us that they need the logo as soon as possible in order to contact the supplier and have them send it here before Innofest. Hence, I focused on helping Cecilia to create logos. Here are some of the logos we prepared from Week 3 to Week 4:

After consulting with TBS on the logo, they noted that the typeface used was too loud.

Fig 1.4 Logo Attempts by Cecilia |
Besides our own attempts, TBS also gave us an idea to use the letters g, e & m in the logo (as seen in Fig 1.4). With their sketch as reference, we decided to digitise it to see if it would work.

Vernice also played around with the letters GEM and bamboo elements. Afterwards Cecilia digitised it according to the sketch.

Fig 1.6 Logo Attempts by Me |
I felt that the digitised outcome was very messy and unconsistent, so I decided to clean it by smoothening its lines to look more minimalistic. However, I felt that these logos are not playful enough.

I was also quite interested with the use of the letters GEM in our logo. To me, the letter G has a huge curve I can play around with, hence I centred my designs with that. I connected the points of the letter m to create leaves and used it as illustrations on the logo.

Fig 1.8 Top 3 TBS Logo Choices |
After a meeting with TBS to update them about our visuals, the liked the above (Fig 1.8) logos the most, two of them being my designs and the middle being Jo Min's design.

Fig 1.9 Colour Palette |
For the colour palette, the client wanted green to be the main colour, with cream or beige in the palette as well.

Fig 2.0 Graphic Elements from Cecil |
For the graphic elements, we planned on using bamboo as the main visuals and organic shapes to accompany it.

Fig 2.1 Typeface |
In terms of typeface, we had a few choices to choose from, but it motly consists of more stylistic fonts for the title and a calmer, more sophisticated font for the body text.

Our UI/UX team - Vernice, Cheryl and Britney, also started designing the wireframe for our website, it contains a homepage, product page, about us page, FAQ and sign in page.

Fig 2.3 Packaging Design by Siew Ni |
For the packaging, Siew Ni suggested to create reusable packaging that can be transformed to become phone stands, organisers, etc. Moreover, the inner layer of the box can show bottle features and other information, wheread the outer design can be minimalist with logo and product name.

Fig 2.4 Animation Storyboard by Jo Min |
Since our client wanted a video to be displayed during Innofest, Jo Min created storyboard with the idea of showcasing the product features like stainless steel, lightweight, etc. We also suggested them to use background music instead of voiceover because the convention would be too loud for the audio to be heard clearly.
Week 5

Fig 2.5 Logo Attempts by Evaleez |
This week, I explored a few more options on the logo, mainly trying to add GEM in the logo. But, my groupmates noted that it looked more like a clock, which I agree after looking back at it.

With the feedback in mind, I tried to further explore the use of bamboo in our logo (bottom right of Fig 2.6), and also added GEM onto it to see what it would look like.
Besides these attempts, we mostly finalised Task 2 with a solid art direction. These are some of the final progressions of each:
We showed TBS these progressions and they were happy with our work.

Feedback
Week 4
Feedback:
- Our art direction is everywhere the moment, need to make everything consistent.
- The logo needs to be explored more
- Reusable packaging is good, but need to talk to the client about it. Also, if we are doing this, that means we now have more work since we have to design the packaging shape as well, instead of just a normal box.
Next course of action:
- Solidify art direction
- More effort needed to work on the logo
- Talk to TBS about the packaging
Week 5
Feedback:
- We need to finalise the art direction, can do votes
- Logos can be further explored
- 90s of animation is too long, people will get bored.
- Graphic element are nice.
Next course of action:
- Finalise art direction
- Finalise logo
Week 6
Feedback:
- Secondary colours are good
- Art direction is consistent
- Logo need to be further explored
Next course of action:
- Refine logo
- Start protoyping
Reflection
Experience
I feel like I overclocked my brain with designing the logo. Since I am not a graphic design student, I do not have much experience with branding. Moreover, for my specialisation - entertainment design, adding more, i.e. more details, more extra stuff, etc, is what we were taught to do. Hence, creating something minimalistic is very hard for me. This past few weeks have definitely been a new experience and I feel like I am at least a bit better at creating logos now.
Observation
One of the biggest things I observed is how the business school sees things. For us designers, we would mostly priotise user experience and visual impact, however, I realised we never really consider the costs of doing these things. I observed this when the business school commented that our idea for a reusable packaging might take up too much cost.
Findings
I found that having a type specimen makes choosing fonts so much easier.
