Week 2
After the briefing and grouping session on Week 1, I decided to choose UWB as my preffered project. From here, I was grouped with people of the same interest and we started to do contextual primary research.
Research 0uput from my part (What do users need in a product):

Week 3
This week, we had a meeting with th representatives from UWB. Besides that, Mr Mike also suggested us to split to 3 groups instead of two, hence we went from 7 to 5 people in a group. After discussions with the group members, we decided to go for Watch Over You from Adam Horky.

Week 4
After choosing the product, Mr Mike noted that the current designs from UWB students would require research to improve its features. Hence we started the primary research process. We decide to go for interviews and surveys With interviews aiming at the elders themselves. Besides that, the survey will be used to gather information from the caretakers.
Below are the list of questions we prepared for the interviews while the Google Form link for caretakers is here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdOKZ-NHpB76mTU03dQ-lGsGMQ6BaxEkeKiEqp-f_fiNHipWg/viewform

Week 5
This week, we started looking for care centres/ old folks homes to conduct interviews with. Here are the list of people were tried to contact and its progression:

We were lucky enough to receive a response from Vida Care Centre, an elderly care near the university. They house mainly patients with dementia and has a good reputation among the care centres. Since we are not physically close to UWB, Mr Mike asked us to buy watches that are of similar designs as Adam's watch. With this in mind, we went to Mr DIY and bought a few that resembles his design, with different strap textures to test on the elders.
Week 6
On week 6, we visited Vida Care Centre. There, we had a talk with Dr Lingham and the manager of the centre. We were able to gain a lot of insight from them in regards to the needs of the elderly, and more specifically, elderly with dementia.
Here, we also found out about their cctv system that helps with detecting crashes. Dr Lingham demonstrated how the cctv footage in their monitor would switch to colour mode if there was an movement detected. Although good, he noted that there were also times where the cctv would detect even the movement of a fly, so it wasn't a perfect solution as well.
Besides Dr Lingham, we also interviewed on of the elderly people in the centre. The biggest takeaway was how the old lady was very perticular with the style of the watch, i.e. she would comment how the watch was mde for men and it was not a female watch.
Transcriptions of the interview can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PBCV27xETFhrArBDeBu2OW4IlxkQih9hU9ll_GmXIgw/edit?usp=drive_link
Week 7
This week, we briefed Mr Mike about the interview results. He noted that we need to find more people that fit our personas. Since it was hard for us to find elderly people who were willing to interview, Mr Mike advised us to find the caretakers/ family members instead. The main goal of the interviews were to justify the need to have a watch as the crash detection device.
From here, we interviewed 3 people - two people with elders and one elder. In the end we managed to justify:
- Older people are very particular about time and tend to have a schedule for everything, so a watch is necessary
- They don't mind having accesories on their wrist
- Most of them watch videos from YouTube/ TV.

Week 9
After finalising our research, we moved on to creating the art direction for out product. As the group eader, I gave the job to our Graphic Design student, to create. Besides that, the UI/UX students started their wireframes for the website and application. Meanwhile, I was communicating with our partner in UWB for the product pictures. However, he did not reply to us for 2 weeks and finally decided to ask Mr Mike for help.

Week 11
This week we started creating the key visuals for our product. I was tasked with creating the video advertisments for the product. I started with making the moodboard and the voiceover script. Moreover, I planned a tutorial video for the elderly as well.

Week 13
This week, I finalised the frames for the marketing ad. We decided to focus on YouTube ad social media video advertisments and remove the need for a tutorial video.
Video keyframes:

Mr Mike liked the frame with the old man and the words (Frame 2.2) and noted that the other frames looked cold and too premium. He suggested to show more of the senior's lifestyle while making it look friendlier and warmer.
Week 14
Based on Mr Mike's advice, I redid the keyframes to make it look warmer and and showcasing more of elderly in their daily lives.

Mr Mike agreed on these frames, but he asked me to make sure not to clump so much information in one frame, eg. frame 2. He advised me to use more stock videos with the voiceover at the back accompanying it. He also asked me to edit the watch face to white, because it looks too dull at the moment.
Week 15
This week, I finalised my parts, which were the YouTube video advertisment and Tiktok/ Instaagram Reels advertisment. I also used AI to create the voiceover. This took some time as I needed to edit the pronounciations and breaks for each line.

Feedback
Week 1
- Fill Miro with contextual research
Week 2
- Include the mechanical component of helping the fallen person to sit up or at least lift up the head rather than just the alert sensors
- To confirm 3-4 personas that best represent the target market
- Draft questionnaires and/or interview questions for each of the personas
- List of online survey targets and/or interviewee identities
Week 3
- Conduct interviews or an online survey to obtain data about the design features and app services for the product
- Analyse the interview or survey data to inform the next design decision with the UWB partner.
Week 4
- Since the target users are elderly persons, the online survey would not be suitable. Semi-structured interview (1-to-1) is required. Need to identify the elderly persons to be interviewed.
- Analyse the interview responses and confirm if the features proposed by UWB student is sufficient or if new features are required to be added.
Week 5
- Find ways to demonstrate the prototype design and its features to the elderly during the interviews.
- Gather the interview data and analyse it to fill in the insights section in Miro.
- Must aim to complete the insights section by next week at the latest.
- Conduct observations and interview elderly targeted users
Week 7
- Art direction board next, website
- Need to facts on 2 other personas who are living alone
- Need to confirm the app
- Art direction started with the logo ‘LL’. Advised to keep it minimalistic for the sophisticated look.
- Need key visuals to test the art direction elements immediately.
- Complete Art Direction with key visuals.
- To complete the Art Direction with key visuals
- Art Direction with key visuals is lacking as the whole list of brand launches and promotions is not thought out yet.
- Youtube videos need editing. Currently, it’s premium and cold in tone. Need to show more of the senior’s lifestyle with warmer tones to create a relatable and friendlier visual style.
- Go all out to complete all the collaterals with a relatable and friendlier visual style.
Reflection
From this module, I learned how to work with people outside of my expertise. It was an interesting experince meeting with people from Czech Republic and working with them to create a product that would help the elderly. Moreover, I managed to hone my skills with After Effects and Premier Pro.
Although I learned a lot, this module made me want to jump off a building. Firstly, our graphic design student was not performing well. His output was not satisfying to say the least and he was absent most of the time. This gave our team a lot of problems since he is supposed to plan the art direction of the entire project. Besides that, at one point our team of 5 felt like it was only a team of 3, with another member of ours also started going missing.
In relation to going missing, our UWB partner, Adam, was also not contactable. This was really hard for me, since I can't meet him face to face and the only form of communication we had was through our groupchat, which he ignored for 2 weeks until we contacted his lecturer to help with the problem. This resulted in us having the product photos really late. Afterwards, when we asked him for another angle of the watch for advertisement uses, he did not respond at all (since 19/06/23).
So yea, I'm glad I have a therapist.
