Reflection
What I’ve learned
As someone who had stopped taking art since I was 15, this course has taught me a lot on the fundamentals of design.
Balance no longer means the remaining money in my bank and the golden ratio is no longer the perfect ratio for coffee.
Nowadays, when I look at beautiful artworks, I would actually understand why it looks so good. I’ve learned how to be observant, to take in every moment I’m going through and immerse myself in the details so I can analyse things better.
What I enjoyed the most
I enjoyed everything to be honest. The main reason being how much freedom this module gives me, especially in terms of what medium I use. I personally enjoy doing digital art, much more than traditional (also because I’m too broke to buy art supplies) and using this opportunity to tone myself and have a better understanding on the softwares I use was a delightful feeling.
Besides that, Dr Charles is also a joy to be around with. The way he analyses things, constantly asking, “Why did you choose this? Is there a deeper meaning to it?” Was wuite mind boggling, because sometimes when I look at art, it’s just a straight road to, “Ah yes, beautiful. Props to the artist.” Dr. Charles is also a very flexible person, who put more emphasis on creating something good instead of doing it for the deadline. In which case, I am grateful for the extensions he gave us.
What I did not enjoy the most
Not much, it’s just that sometimes during the feedback sessions it gets dragged out way too long, especially since we have a large class. As a person who has a short attention span, it’s really tiring to listen (no offence to the people getting feedback though, it’s just my personal problem).
