Summary
Intro
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel relate to others and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. However, some people are ignorant of this idea and assume that mental health is just an“excuse”.
Paragraph 1
Brains are organs and organs can fail, but a lot of people don’t acknowledge that and ask them to just “get over it”. When someone hears those three words, there is a strong chance that they will shut down and stop speaking about the struggles they are facing. When that happens, people suffer in silence and don’t get whatever help they might need
Paragraph 2
“The high-pressure societal structure made it easy for people to develop mental disorders; a high percentage of illness was psychological, and as a result, indirectly helped develop many dangerous cultures and ideologies back then. Some historians refer to that period as the 'Age of Neuroterrorism' to signify time where mankind became enslaved to their own heads.” - Priest (The Defectives).
Summary
Mental illness doesn’t have an on/off switch. You can’t just go, “I’m not sad anymore, yay.” If this were true, there wouldn’t be therapists in the world. If depression was as easy as turning a switch on and off, I think the world might be a better place.

Process
Fig 1.8 Progress 1 (26/10/21) |
I first went on Adobe Stock and searched for photos of light bulbs and a nice background.
Afterwards, I added a yeallow traingle in soft light mode to create light.
When I was satisifed with the light, I took a photo of my arm reaching out and also foung some wall swtiches on Adobe Stock. I colour corrected my hand to suit the environment light.

I added another traingle on top of the first one to make is more obvious. Afterwards I used a blue tone on my fonts to create a contrast with the background.
Final Outcome
Fig 2.2 Final Poster Design (30/10/21) |
As advised by Mr Fauzi, I added a wall switch into the design. In terms of assets in the design, the hand is my own hand; the rest are taken from Adobe Stock. This composition has more of an artistic and subtle way of describing the theme. The bulb was added to as it pairs well with the switch; when the bulb is off, everything goes dark just like how our mental health gets worse if we feel as if there isn’t anyone willing to hear us out. A cyan tone was used in the title because it complements well with the yellow background.
My target audience for this poster is friends and family of people who suffer from mental illness. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. However, some people are ignorant of this idea and assume that mental health is just an“excuse”. When someone hears those three words, there is a strong chance that they will shut down and stop speaking about the struggles they are facing.
Feedback
- You can take a photo of your hand as the "photography" part of your poster.
- You can make it a bit surrealistic, especially with the light, no need to blur it too much.
Reflection
This poster made me understand more about mental health since we had to do some research on it before the sketching process. Besides that, I also gained experience is using Adobe Photoshop and the adjunstment layers, as it took some time to colour correct my hand into the poster.
